Student Application Portal
De Montfort University wanted to update their current student portal so that students (new and existing) could log in and apply for new courses or check on the progress of current applications. Their old system ran on an outdated SAP UI5 platform, with poor UX and an unbranded dull UI. DMU wanted us to improve the user experience and also bring the UI up to date and on brand, with new and engaging features so students would find it much easier to apply for new courses and actually enjoy using the system. A student could apply for multiple courses at a time, so we needed a way to show a student the overall progress of these applications visually in a quick and easy way, without having to click into each one.
The Result
A dashboard which shows all open applications at one glance, easily indicating which stage each application is at, and whether any action from the student is needed to proceed. The applications themselves are lengthy, so reformatting questions to simplify the application for the student was also part of making the experience more pleasant, and much easier to digest. A student can immediately tell when an answer is correct or incorrect within an application as we have validation on each field, as well as being able to save and return to a form to update or change any information at a later time if necessary. The UI is very simple, using the colours and fonts from DMU’s brand guidelines with accessibility also taken into account.
